Dubai, February 5th 2006 – TAG Heuer Ambassador Tiger Woods defeated Ernie Els in a thrilling sudden-death playoff to win the Dubai Desert Classic at the Emirates Golf Club on February 5th, 2006.
The victory was the second in a row for the world number one golfer, who walked away with the season opener at La Jolla the week before. The 2005 Golfer of the Year, who now has 36 career wins in just over six seasons on the PGA Tour, is well on his way to his best year yet. He also added another prize to his personal record book: the win at Dubai was the 12th playoff win of his career.
At the awards ceremony, where Tiger Woods received his trophy and the $400,000 winner’s check from His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the TAG HEUER PROFESSIONAL GOLF WATCH TIGER WOODS EDITION flashed and sparkled on the champion’s wrist. The ultra-light titanium, stainless steel and silicon rubber watch, designed and developed in collaboration with Tiger Woods, is the world’s first golf-dedicated sports watch, uniquely designed to be worn by professional golfers while they are on the golf course, something that until now was considered impossible by most golfers.
A TAG Heuer Ambassador since 2002, Tiger Woods is one of the greatest sports champions ever, and through his superlative style and unparalleled results, perfectly embodies the core values that have driven the TAG Heuer brand in its pursuit of perfection for 145 years: passion, prestige, performance and elegance.
